If it’s your first appointment with us, coming in with (relatively) clean, dry, styled hair is a great start. It’s best to avoid a bun or ponytail (even if you wear your hair like that more than you care to admit!). If your hair is overly damp, unwashed, or has been pulled back for days, your stylist will have a harder time assessing your hair’s natural state & growth patterns. Getting to see what your hair looks like & how it behaves is really useful information and the more we can see about how your hair usually looks, the better your haircut is likely to be. This is also true if you are coming in for a transformational haircut, even if we have seen you before.

We often hear from clients that they’ve heard that you shouldn’t have clean hair if you are getting color done. This isn’t strictly true! While you don’t need to wash your hair the day of your appointment, it’s generally ok if you do (as long as you have time to get it dry) and it’s definitely best to have washed it within a day or two before getting color. If your hair hasn’t been washed for some time, the oils &/or built-up products may act as a barrier to the color, impeding its ability to work properly. One exception is if your appointment involves on-scalp lightener (examples include going platinum or getting all over fashion colors). For this type of appointment, it’s best to wash your hair about 24-48 hours ahead of your appointment & not do anything to it the day of. If bleach is going to touch your scalp, you want some natural oils present as a buffer.

Don’t worry about knowing the right terms to describe what kind of cut or color you want! We love to see inspiration photos, even if you like the length in one photo & the layers in another & the bangs in yet another. Even hearing what you *don’t* like about a style or color can help us. If you have a photo of yourself with a cut or color you really liked, that’s always great to see. And it’s ok if you can’t pronounce "balayage,” we have heard every variation on it, just tell us or show us what you’re picturing for the color.

When you’re making your appointment, be really clear about what you services you want. Cutting off ten inches of hair? Let us know you want a transformational cut! Want to go blonde after years of dark box color? Knowing that will help us book enough time for your appointment. Again, you don’t have to know the correct terms, just describe to us what you’re looking to do.

Being on time for your appointment is one of the most important factors. Our stylists are often fully booked, meaning there’s very little wiggle room. If you are going to be more than five minutes late, please contact us. Check out our “Hours & Policies” page for more info.

What not to wear to your appointment:

  • turtleneck

  • hoodie

  • hoop earrings

  • your grandma’s heirloom lace blouse that shouldn’t get wet

We do our best to keep everything clean & dry, but turtlenecks & hoodies are just damp disasters waiting to happen, plus they are in our way when we are trying to cut your hair or apply your color.

Getting a bang trim? Please don’t come in with your bangs pinned back. These are generally quick appointments & we may not have time to get them styled into place so we can see what needs to be cut. We know they’re long enough to be bugging you, but please wear them down to your appointment so we can give you a proper trim!

Any questions? Give us a call at 984.219.7965. We don’t use a receptionist, so whenever you call Fuss & Bother, you’ll be speaking to a stylist who can address any questions or concerns you might have. We look forward to hearing from you & giving you your best hair!
